nautica-malibu-triathlon-race-report-2016

Hello! I’m back. Been way too long. I think I started my last post (that was 2 years ago) like this. But I’m on it again.  A lot has happened in the past two years. I had a major surgery 6 weeks after my last race report. I’ll be sharing more on that in the next few posts. For today I thought it would be appropriate to end my hiatus with a my race report from Nautica Malibu Tri International distance. The same race I did 2 years ago and was my last post for a while.

Nautica Malibu Triathlon Race Report + Race Tips

Hello! Yes, it’s been awhile since the last post. Time flies for sure.  This weeks post is my  Nautica Malibu Triathlon race report. We did the International ( Olympic) distance on Sat Sept 13th. I have to say, if you have not done this race before, you are in for a fun day and will experience a well run race. And in keeping with our year of “giving back”, this race had all proceeds and donations go to Children’s Hospital of LA. This year the race raised more than 1, 350,000. There’s a corporate challenge and entertainment (celebrity race) industry challenge too. FUN.

Here’s the short version. Super fun day.

Run Inspired Road

Whew this is a jam-packed post today! How time flies. I have one more day (today) on my self imposed 30 day Run Challenge. Here’s how it’s gone down. Looking back over the past 30 days, I’ve run 24 of them. My intention was to run 26 of 30. Honestly though, the expectation was not much more that seeing what happened and where I was at. No stressful goals here. Still in “off season” mode.

For anyone “just getting back into it”, I say don’t put too many expectations on yourself, ease back into your workouts, enjoy them. Then you’ll crave to do more and more. Continue reading Getting it done, gear, a recipe & assorted musings while running

New Year, Happy 2014

So I keep reading and seeing articles of “New Year, New You!” Now is the time to get inspired and make some positive changes to get or stay healthy and happy in 2014. I’m still in the planning phase for this year but have some thoughts about what I want to accomplish this year. Last year was a big, big goal, Ironman Arizona (read my race report here). This year is going to be one of giving back in the form of race volunteering and a few shorter distance races. Also, I am working toward being fully plant-based athlete. Which leads me to last but certainly not least, planting an organic garden. I’ll be posting that process as well as recipes. Continue reading New Year, Happy 2014

Ironman Arizona 2013 Race Report

Ironman Arizona 2013 post raceOK it’s been almost 48 hours since the race. Thought I should get my race report posted so I can re-live what an awesome day it was!!  My husband and I signed up a year ago (Nov 2012) for IMAZ after volunteering last year. We did bike handling and it was exciting. (read more getting started) It’s the best way to get a spot in this popular race.

If you are a first timer and are  interested in some extra race info, in my next post I’ll give you my top 5 tips for a successful race.

OK this is a bit long so grab a coffee/tea and read on:
OK HERE WE GO! Get ‘R DONE! We were staying in a condo close to the race so we got up at 4AM had some breakfast which included museli (Bob’s RedMill Gluten Free Museli), 1/2 bagel with peanut butter and 1/2 banana. Fueled up and ready to go, we grabbed our bike food, bottles and swim stuff and headed over to Tempe Town Lake area around 4:45AM. Found great FREE parking in USAIRWAYS  building super close to race venue. OK getting a bit nervous now…what we have worked for so long the past year is coming to culmination. This is it! Getting Started

So I’ve been wanting to start this blog for a while now to chronicle our journey to Ironman Arizona. It’s our 1st full Ironman race.  As this is the 1st post, I think a bit of history is in order. It all really started last November when we volunteered at the Ironman Arizona 2012 race. My husband and I signed up for Bike Handling. This was a really fun job, involving catching the bikes as the riders came in from their 112 mile ride portion of the race. Volunteering for the race is one of the best ways to assure you get a spot on the participant list. Just an FYI, some of the athletes literally throw their bikes at you so you need to have lots of energy for this. We literally ran for 5 hours, catching bikes and re-racking them in the transition area. This race is so popular that it sells out online almost immediately. So if you are thinking about doing it (and you should!) a bit of planning is needed. Once you finish you volunteering for the race, you have priority sign up the next day for the race the following year. Again, just a tip for you, get to the sign up early. They said they would open at 8AM, we got there at 6:4oAM with coffee in hand and there were already hundreds of people in line!! Crazy Triathletes!! Anyway, after standing in line for awhile we paid our $700 and signed up. It’s ON NOW!
